The Emerald Bowl is a post-season college football bowl game certified by the NCAA that has been played annually at 40,800-seat AT&T Park (home of the San Francisco Giants) in San Francisco, California, since 2002. The game normally matches teams from the Pac-10 and ACC conferences.

In 2004, the bowl produced what later turned out to be a record-setting drive. In the third quarter, Navy, with a 31-19 lead, successfully forced New Mexico into a three-and-out, culminating a goal-line stand. Taking over on offense, the Midshipmen then executed a drive that encompassed 26 plays, 94 yards, and 14 minutes and 26 seconds of the game clock, stretching well into the fourth quarter. The NCAA later confirmed that the drive was historic, setting records for the number of plays in a drive and time of possession in a drive.

UCLA will play Florida State on December 27, 2006 at 5 pm PST in this year's Emerald Bowl.

The PetroSun Independence Bowl is a post-season NCAA-sanctioned Division I college football bowl game that is played annually at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana, so named because it was inaugurated in the United States bicentennial year, 1976.

Beginning with 1998, the game has normally featured a matchup between teams representing the Big 12 Conference and SEC. Teams from other conferences are included only if one of those leagues does not have enough bowl eligible teams to fill its spot, such as in 2004 when Miami (Ohio) played instead of a SEC squad.

Alabama will play Oklahoma State on December 28, 2006 at 11am PST in this year's Independence Bowl.

Rutgers was 10-2 in the standings but just 7-3-1 ATS. Kansas State was 6-5 against the number. The Scarlet Knights finished 4-2 on the road this season while Kansas State was just 1-3.

This is Rutgers' second bowl game since 1978, the other coming last year against Arizona State. Kansas State has not been to a bowl since 2003.
